Experimental/process

Experimenting with media and playing with fantasy landscapes. I severely miss the outside world, and the freedom of being outside. Channeling these feelings into imaginary landscapes, i began playing with gouache paints and watercolour paints to merge colours, patterns, and perspectives; generating fantasy landscape designs. These are sort of thumb nail sketches, analysing what colour combinations are good, what pattern formations are more aesthetically pleasing, and what perspectives are most successful. Watercolour has been a medium i have used more in my practice over recent months, and i intend to keep this up; alongside more input of gouache paint too. These experiments could develop into larger, more finalised pieces, or stay as experiments- I haven’t decided yet.

Drawings that aren’t necessarily unfinished or finished, but act as processes for ideas, or just doodling to clear my mind and maybe think about potential working designs….

Quarantine and lock down has made me think about the little things we take for granted, little luxuries that make up our daily lives, that we maybe don’t appreciate how lucky we are to have them. Having the ability to be outside is a luxury; having a home to self isolate in is a luxury; take away coffee is a luxury; people to have conversations with is a luxury. Hopefully, when restrictions are lifted, humanity will have more gratitude towards life; and more empathy and compassion for those who don’t have what we take for granted.

“Mind mapping” watercolour patterns and colour schemes- thinking about integrating watercolours into my final project for texture/blending backgrounds.
