The Quarantine Journal

April 7th 2020:

Inspired by articles i have read online, news stories and positive posts on social media, i decided to start my own quarantine journal. It is less of a “dear diary” and more of a creative outlet, little doodles of moments i find myself in, how I’m feeling, things that make me feel positive or negative about a particular day. Journaling is an extremely common method of mindful therapy for many people, and i can imagine that during a time like this, this particular method of wellbeing will be more popular. At the moment i am especially enjoying working with watercolours- playing with the blending of colour and pattern, observing the more spontaneous results of water and paint- rather than pre determined strict line drawings that are also common in my practice. I am also collecting cutouts from magazines and newspapers that i find important, or inspiring for future pages; a method i like to use when I’m struggling for inspiration or motivation. I think it will be interesting to watch this homemade journal develop over the course of this lockdown period- tracing my activities, thoughts, and feelings.
