Potential applications for work…

I have been considering the potential applications for my recent piece “utopia/overgrown”, exploring the relationship between man and nature, and the current connotations that holds in a Covid 19 world. These ideas have included: poster design, editorial (alongside relevant literature); the premise for a short 2D animation; the premise for a stop motion animation; a design for various products….

The work i have created within this project brief has a variety of versions- both finished and unfinished. The beauty of digital manipulation and constant layering is that there are infinite possibilities for composition and design, as well as application. I have explored what my designs would look like as various accessories, such as phone cases, travel mugs, notebooks, tote bags, pillow covers, and masks (quite prominent in contemporary circumstances).

Noticing the visual impacts of the products with vivid colours, and those same products in black and white…

This particular composition can be recreated in various colours, with the potential addition of text for various situations. In a contemporary culture of social isolation and quarantine- I’ve been thinking about phrases that emphasise life and self love- such as “nurture” “peace of mind” “vitae” “thrive in isolation” “nourishment” and “balance”…. all of which can be digitally added and edited for relevant applications.

I think products such as the face mask are quite poignant applications in a modern world- taking into account both the meaning behind the illustration and then the connotations of the use of the mask. In one way, it’s rekindling natures ability to protect us, emphasising the healthy relationship that comes with respect and balance.
